The most popular category is wire sensors where a spring-loaded wire is pulled out, and the distance can be measured by monitoring how much the drum rotates inside the sensor.

They are available for measuring ranges from 50 mm with the SX50 model up to 42.5 meters with the SX135. Similarly, it is possible to choose from a variety of signal types: 0...10 V, 4...20 mA, Potentiometer, TTL, HTL, SSI, Profibus, CANopen, Ethercat, and Profinet. It is also possible to order models with higher accuracy or improved IP rating and extended temperature range for tougher applications.

There are also wire transducers that can handle 300 bar and are designed to be mounted inside hydraulic cylinders to measure the stroke of the cylinder. Examples of new additions to the range are wire transducers or string transducers specially developed for mobile machinery where the transducers must withstand the environment and cleaning.
